OUR HOTEL

For over 400 years the Rappen has been located by the Gallow’s Tower (Galgenturm) of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and is therefore a fixture in the history of the past imperial city.
​
The Rappen was first documented as tavern and inn in the year 1603, in which it offered travellers, as well as their horses, comfortable lodgings and Imperial City hospitality.
In 1706, when the Rappen became a postal station and the Rappen innkeeper was appointed Imperial Postal Keeper, this historical inn gained further importance in the history of Rothenburg. During the summer months, the Rappen Garden served as a meeting place for the “Imperial City Society”, where they quenched their thirst with a mug of beer or a pint of wine, accompanied by dance music.

When Rothenburg lost its Imperial City status in the year 1802 and was incorporated into Bavaria, the newly founded militia held its yearly parade in front of the Rappen, after which they celebrated over food and drink in the tavern. Due to a bombing attack towards the end of World War II, the Rappen - as well as a large part of the historical city center of Rothenburg - suffered extensive damage.

The reconstruction in the post-war period and the continuous development of the establishment, such as including another historical neighbouring building in 1960 and the expansion of the newly opened Toppler House in the year 2009 resulted in the present state of the Hotel Rappen Rothenburg: a modernly furnished hotel with imperial city flair, in which hospitality and satisfaction of the guests has been emphasized for over 4 centuries.

Of course, the Hotel Rappen offers WiFi access and free parking. Exclusively in Rothenburg, we offer specially equipped rooms for allergetics, wheel-chair users and families. Furthermore, we offer seperated as well as over-length beds.

Our Chef de Cuisine is well known way beyond the boundaries of Rothenburg for his artful, exotic and vegetarian pancake creations.
Furthermore he pampers his guests with regional Franconian dishes, as well as with international specialities. In the Rappen you eat fresh and with variety - with the best products and ingredients from our own butcher.
Let yourself be spoiled and enjoy precious moments - in the Coachman’s Room, the Rappen Hall or the Barbarossa Room. Here, you and your guests can enjoy all of the pleasures, which our restaurant has to offer - with a large party or small party. We provide the fitting surroundings.
