The Rappen was first mentioned in 1603 as a tavern and inn, offering travellers with their horse-drawn carriages a cosy place to spend the night and a taste of imperial-city hospitality. In 1706 it was appointed a post station, further enhancing its importance in Rothenburg. During the summer months, the Rappen garden served as a meeting place for the “Imperial City Society”, who quenched their thirst with beer or wine there while enjoying music and dancing.
Today, in our family-run Hotel Rappen, we offer rooms in three star categories: 3 stars, 3-star superior and 4 stars. This variety reflects our long-standing tradition of welcoming guests from all walks of life.
Although Hotel Rappen is now firmly established as part of Rothenburg ob der Tauber’s townscape and has grown to encompass several buildings, it had to weather a number of periods of upheaval before becoming the modern and dependable hotel it is today.
Shortly before the end of the Second World War, the Rappen was shaken by a bombing raid, yet the hotel’s enduring hospitality has remained unshaken.
Until 1950: The Rappen is rebuilt and brought back to life.
1960: Incorporation of another historic neighbouring building into the main building of Hotel Rappen.
2009: Extension through the newly opened Topplerhaus, which provided the hotel with additional capacity.
2019: Final connection of two buildings by an impressive new structure.
